The previous leader government of the carmaker Volkswagen has been charged in Germany over his involvement within the corporate’s diesel emissions scandal.

The general public prosecutor in Braunschweig charged Martin Winterkorn, and 4 different managers, with fraud.

Mr Winterkorn is already dealing with prison fees in the USA, however is not likely to stand trial, as Germany does no longer extradite its voters.

The 71-year-old resigned quickly after the scandal erupted in September 2015.

In a commentary, prosectors accused Mr Winterkorn of a “specifically severe” fraud.
